I would like to install a furler on Zoom soon. There is one for sale locally that is a Harken MkIII, unit 1.
Can anybody tell me if that is a suitable model? I will be able (hopefully) to  determine if it is in good shape, I just need a little guidance as to selection. And perhaps also a heads up on installation ie forestay modification etc. Thanks in advance, kris

I have the Harken MkIV but I am sure that there are Co32's with the MkIII fitted so it should be fine. You will need to make sure the foil-length is ok because you may not be able to get extension sections now.

Ah ha, thank you George. The unit I have looked at is second hand, but has no foil. If I understand you correctly, it sounds like the foil section is now unavailable? It appears to be in great condition otherwise. And very well priced, which would make sense if foils are hard to find!

I am not sure if the foil section is available or not, you would need to check with a Harken dealer. You may find that by the time you buy replacement foil sections it is cheaper to buy a complete replacement new system.

Harken are usually pretty good with spares for old kit so it's well worth giving them a call.
We fitted a Mk4 Unit1 a few years ago and I can't really fault it.
Probably around £2500 new if you fit it yourself.
