I am looking at buying an older boat with original winches. Could anyone pls give me an idea of the cost to replace these with self tailing new winches-thanks, Nick

Pair of Lewmar/Harken size 46 winches is easy enough to look up, probably around £1500 for the pair.  Fitting can be done yourself, not a hard job (plenty of owners have done it) but may take a weekend.

Thanks George, have been trolling round the website, internet and chandlers, starting now to get an idea of the various costs. Will call Peter sanders tomorrow ref upholstery as per your post.

Great forum-very very useful,

Thanks, Nick

George am I correct in thinking that to stay in Class the winch sizes are Genoa 46, spinnaker 20 and Halyard/control line winches 35 ?

Thanks, Nick

Nick The max diameter of the drum must not over sail the coaming.
