have just written a post in the Wanted section re a replacement boom for Ella. If am not able free up the existing one which is probably the original does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement that isn't too costly I.e Selden which is around £800!!
Many thanks
Anna

Anna what do you mean by 'free up'? The original ie early CO32s had a 'round' boom with roller reefing. One or two people have retained this facility for Harbour stow whilst using slab reefing.
The main points of weakness are at the Gooseneck & the vang fitting where corrosion can set in.

Hi Colin
The roller round bit at the end of the Boom is siezed and is a little offset which isnt a huge problem but it would be good to free it up again so that it swivels especially so that the topping lift isnt pulling the boom at an angle.  I dont use it for roller reefing etc.
Also underneath where the mainsheet traveller is attached this is also offset and has caused a groove in the metal.
The Gooseneck and the Vang attachment seem fine.
I only bought Ella last year and so am addressing a few issues!!
Many thanks
Anna

Any chance of a couple of pics of the offending bits? You can mail to me cka(at)talktalk.net. Struggling to understand the offset bit!

Anna,
If I understand correctly, this is the gunmetal fitting at the outer end of the boom that allows the boom to rotate without winding up the mainsheet and topping lift. In which case try liberal applications of plus gas every day for a week and then nudge it with a soft faced hammer. If that doesn't work, try heating it all round with a blow torch and again nudge it with a soft faced hammer, apply more plus gas and repeat.
If all that fails, I have two spare booms (don't ask why!), one of which the end fitting is free and I'll happily swap you either an end fitting or a boom.

Hi - thanks so much for your email. Will have a go. So far have been soaking it in WD40 as  the boom is off at the moment.  Would be interested if you would like to sell one of your booms? Am down in Dartmouth.
Many thanks

Hi there - I don't know if you received my reply. Have tried to everything to free up the end of the boom but it won't budge and so if the offer still stands I would be interested in one of your spare booms. Does it have any reefing cleats etc on it?
Many thanks
Anna
